アメリカ人の僕からすると、米軍と付き合う前に、よく考える必要がある。
僕は軍隊に入った経験はないが、お祖父さん二人ともは元軍隊だ。
最初検討して欲しいポイントが、当たり前のことだが、米軍は軍隊だ。簡単に言うと、軍隊の仕事は暴力で国を守ることだ。彼らは人を殺す覚悟をしているはずだし、彼れにとって人を殺す訓練は義務のうち。だから、軍隊の中に怖い人はたくさんいるのは言うまでもない。人を殺したいから軍隊に入る人もいるだろう。（もちろん、こういうような人が少ないに越したことがない。）
まあ、軍隊に入ったからと言って、人の性格を言うことは出来ない。ソルジャーのような仕事が出来る人は、優しい人もいるし、酷い人もいる。だが、銃の使い方に慣れているからと言って、人の命に対して責任感を持つとは限らないのだ。
アメリカ人のほとんどは、その軍隊の勇気は勲章に値すると思っているだが、僕は銃を持つだけで、評価されたくないのだ。問題が発生した時、「敵を倒す」と考えるのではなく、「どのようにこの問題を解決出来るのか」と「どうやってこれから同じ問題が二度と起こさないのか」を先に考えて方が皆のお得だろう。
純粋に国民を守りたいから軍隊に入った気分は分かるが、そういう人は大きなことを勘違いしていると思う。
それは、暴力で人を守ることはあまり出来ないということである。本当に勇気のある人は、平和を目指し、暴力の嵐に入っても、命をかけて戦おうとしている人々を落ち着けようとする。犠牲になることは多いかもしれないが、だからこそ勇気が必要。しかし、非暴力主義者の活動の特徴は、殺し合いの悪循環を切れるところにある。こう考えると、僕にとってなぜ軍隊が非暴力主義者より評価されているのか、分からなくなる。軍隊の「やられたら、やり返せ」という傷つけた子供っぽい考え方より、「Treat others as you want to be treated」」のほうがよっぽど良いだろう。
だから、是非米軍と付き合う前に、「人を暴力で守る」ということについて、自分がどう思っているか確認してみて下さい。
昔の軍隊と現在の軍隊の違い
どのような人が軍隊に入るかを、もうちょっと説明したい。アメリカ人のうるさい右派には「軍隊は我が国の誇りである」と叫んでいる奴が多いが、そのほとんどが元軍隊、もしくは軍隊に入ったことのない政治家だ。
昔の米軍は、誇りに思っても良いような人だったかもしれない。だが、昔の軍隊と現在の軍隊は違うと言われている。
第二次世界大戦の時、ハーバードやその他の一流大学の卒業者が数多く軍隊に入っていた。軍隊に入ることは男の責任とされていて、一流の大学を卒業しても、高校卒だけギリギリ卒業しても、男らしい男は国のためにアメリカの敵と戦うべきという時代だった。
しかし約二十年後、ベトナム戦争が勃発した。既にアメリカは変わっていた。「愛国者は軍隊に入る」という決まりはまだあったが、それは戦争に行ったことがない政治家の口先のデタラメに過ぎない、と思っていた人もたくさんでてきた。当時兵役の歳になっているアメリカの元大統領クリントンや元大統領ブッシュなどは戦争に行かなかった。彼らの家族が大金持ちだったし、彼らは一流大学にひきこもることで、戦争を避けた。実際戦争に行ったのは、貧乏家族の子だった。
現在はベトナム戦争からあまりなにも変わっていないような気がする。アメリカではこれについての論争が激しいが、かいつまんで言うと、右派の「軍人が国の誇りである。彼らが我が国の平和を保証する。敵を殺すことで」という馬鹿馬鹿しい考え方と左派の「アメリカは他の国の内行と交渉すべきではない。特に暴力的な行為をすぐやめなければらないのだ」という考え方に、思想が分かれている。
だから、昔の男性には一流卒のものもたくさんいたが、現在は大学に行く金融的の余裕のない、もしくは大学に行く能力すらないような人が多い。
一流の大卒は金融機関へ、高校がうまくいかなかった人は軍隊へ。そんなわけで、社会の不平が広げる。
軍隊の給料が低いのも事実だ。２００９年、軍隊に入ったばかりの一番下のランクの年俸が一年１７千ドルを上回らない（約１７０万円）。六年間命をかけて奴でも、２万６千ドルしかもらっていない（約２６０万円）。このような給料のため殺されるおそれのある仕事をやる人は、限られている。良く言えば、何か必死に頑張る必要がある人。悪く言えば、他の方法のない、もしくはあまり調べていない、ただ政府とメディアが流しているデタラメに走っている人。
彼らのことを軽蔑するつもりはないが、ハッキリ言いたいのは、「教養のあるアメリカ人」は基本的にもうはや軍隊に入らないこと、と思っている人が多い。
でも、まあ、学歴は全てではない。筋肉もりもりがタイプという方もいるだろう。
軍隊は女性についてなんお教育を受けている？
軍隊についての注意もう一つ。
軍隊は、仕事だ。仕事だけど、他の仕事より、「仕事よりライフスタイル」という言葉があるぐらい、軍人は軍隊に密着している。軍隊は家族のようなものだ。コマンダーはお父さんのような役割を果たすため、若いソルジャを大事に育つ。ソルジャは自分同士を「ブラザー」と呼ぶことも珍しくない。相談相手の彼らの中には、こう進めている奴がいる。
「地元の女とセックスをしても良いが、恋に落ちないでくれ。それは、命令だ。今お前らはなぜこういう決まりがあるかはあまり理解出来ないかもしれないが、これはお前らを守るためだ。セックスは男のニーズ。だから、セックスしないとおかしくなる。それで、セックスはやっても良いが、恋は要らない。むしろ、恋に落ちたら、戦わなければならない時に支障が出る。決して我が国の邪魔にならないように、恋に落ちない覚悟をして、セックスをやってきてくれ。それは、お前らのソルジャとしての義務だ。」
まあ、コマンダーによって、説明は違うだろうが、こう考えている人が多いと思われる。そして、愛国者の中に「勤務中周りの（他国の）女の顔を汚させても良い。その後、アメリカに帰って、アメリカ人の美人と結婚すれば良いからだ。」というような酷いことを考えている人すらいるので、ご注意を。
僕が日本人の女性から聞いた失恋話のほとんどは、軍人がゆえのものだ。軍人の中にまだ良い人はいると思うが、それほど多くないので、付き合う時は必ず気をつけてくれ。

分かっていたこと。でもつらい。

ブッシュ大統領は裕福な家庭の出身ですが、クリントンは貧乏な家の出身です。
アメリカ人のあなたが知らないのは、ちょっと不思議な気がしました。

私もすごく納得出来る部分が多く感じました。
私の場合は米軍の軍人ではなく、最近知り合ったドイツの軍人の彼でしたが・・。
とても優しく（体の関係とかはまだでしたが）、お互いの事・将来の希望とか色々話していました。
ですが最近、数カ月後には今度はコソボへ派兵（六か月）される事になったことを告げられました。（二ヶ月弱前にアフガニスタンから帰ってきたばかりなのに）
その話に私ががっかりすると、それから彼が距離を取り始めて・・・。
基本的に軍人は、訓練によってとても頭の切り替えが早くなっているのかなとも思いました。（人の生死をも左右させる決断をするのですからね）
人物としてとても良い人がいるのは事実ですが、仕事柄、あっさり・気持ち/心の切り替え/切り離しが出来るのでしょうね・・・。
私たち女性には辛すぎる性質ですね。
もう二度と軍人には恋に落ちないようにしたいです・・。

私が最近出会った彼は、あとどのくらい居るの？と聞いたら

すごく優しくて、毎日メールして仕事が終わるまでスタバで待ってくれてたり…
船からもメールしてくれます。
ままならない恋だと解っていても、今は本能のまま楽しい時間を過ごしてます。
恋しちゃいけない相手と理解出来ても、じゃ、嫌いになれますか？ってなると私は出来ないみたいです(^^;
